Raw format offers tremendous advantages to the serious digital photographer. In addition to being un-compressed, raw formats allow you to perform post-shoot image processing that would be difficult or impossible to perform using traditional photo editing techniques. Unfortunately, since every vendor has their own, proprietary raw format, getting decent software support can be a problem.
