Apple’s Aperture provides a large assortment of output options. In addition to straight printing, you can create on-screen slide shows, books, and two kinds of web galleries. Pre-built themes are provided for books, web galleries and web journals. While Aperture includes no built-in facility or documentation for creating your own templates, if you’re comfortable with Cascading Style Sheets and HTML, you can edit the built-in web gallery templates to create customized designs. |

While Yosemite may be the "crown jewel" of the National Park Service, personally, I’ll take Death Valley any day. Undeveloped, unpopulated, and unbelievably beautiful, Death Valley’s odd geography – valleys 200 feet below sea level, bordered by 11,000 foot peaks – makes for striking vistas and strange phenomena. This gallery of 30 images was shot in April of 2006 as I spent four days tramping around the park.

If you want to import raw files into Aperture that you’ve already edited with Photoshop Camera Raw, (or perform some other action on those files using Automator – such as zipping or uploading) then this Automator Action might ease your migration. If you’ve got a lot of raw files, it can be time consuming to sort through which ones you have already selected and deemed worthy of further editing. But, if you’ve already sorted through those files and processed them in Photoshop Camera raw, and if you’ve got your Camera Raw preferences set to create sidecar XMP files, then this action will greatly speed your importing.

Only 3 weeks after releasing Aperture 1.1, Apple today released another update. Version 1.1.1, available for free download now via Software Update provides improvements to the program’s white balance and tint controls. In general, white balance controls should be more accurate. iPhoto import has also been improved, and you can now select specific images from the iPhoto library for import.
